Cuttlebone molten metal

Casting with cuttlefish

Cuttlebone casting is intriguing and fascinating; a method where you can observe the transformation of solid to liquid and back to solid. Cuttlebones are regularly washed up on beaches. Precious metals, copper and brass in form of clean scraps or casting grains are melted and then gravity poured into a prepared mould. The molten liquid fills the design carved into the cuttlebone mould.

You can ‘start-from-scratch,’ ‘re-cycle,’ or ‘up-cycle’ to create your perfect rings. Bring gold you have been gifted, rings you’d like re-fashioned, or use our own fine gold to melt into ingots to begin the making process.

The creative experience is set over one romantic weekend. You can stay the night in our dedicated, peaceful, self-contained flat adjacent to the ring-making studio. Arrive on Saturday morning and leave Sunday afternoon with two wedding bands, more expressive, resonant, and treasured than you had even imagined.

We provide expert teaching, a fully equipped studio/workshop, consumables such as sawblades and solder etc., and delightful lunch and breakfast in a tranquil Australian bush setting – you simply bring the precious metal (if you have it) and your passion for each other.

We encourage you to get in touch and start the process as early as possible. This way everything is suitably prepared for you upon arrival.  Our experience has been that the sooner couples book, the more they relish and treasure their weekend with us.
