Ideas To Form offers a studio space, teaching with accommodation for beginners and advanced in the field of gold and silversmithing.

Tuition in silversmithing
Silversmithing Courses at IdeasToForm You are curious and passionate but have been too busy working long hours to innovate, imagine, explore and learn something that is fun and not a chore. At “IdeastoForm” Arakoon, you can be imaginative, inventive and original by learning an ancient skill. The beautiful objects of Gold-and Silversmithing can be seen in museums all over the world and we often wonder how they have been produced. If you have never worked with metals don't worry! You will be amazed at the end of your workshop time what you will have achieved, whilst having a great time in a serene environment. There are so many amazing processes for you to try. Imagine swinging a hammer and forming a beautiful textured silver bowl, starting from only a flat sheet of metal. Imagine transposing one of your photographs onto silver and making a piece of jewellery. Imagine picking up a leaf and using it to emboss its pattern on metal to create a beautiful textured pendant. Imagine cuttlefish bone casting, enamelling and setting stones. As you will be making actual wearable objects quite quickly, even as a beginner, the satisfaction of working in this field is immense. The aim will always be to give you knowledge, skills and confidence.

About Us
We have been working as reputable teachers and innovative designer/makers for many years. Catherine received the NSW Award for Excellence in Teaching. In 2016 we both moved to Arakoon from the city to set up our workshop/studio ‘IdeasToForm’. Here is where we continue to inspire others with our passion for making and designing jewellery and objects. We very much enjoy sharing our passion and skills with both absolute beginners as well as more advanced makers.

Workshop times
IdeastoForm offers a studio space, teaching and accommodation for beginners and those already advanced in the field of gold-and silversmithing. Both weekend and week-long workshops are available throughout the year. The courses can be tailored to your wishes. For those who wonder how to start, specific set projects can be suggested. If you would like to work on a smaller scale and prefer to make jewellery, we can show you how to create rings, pendants, earrings or any number of beautiful smaller objects. If you would rather work on a larger scale, the ‘singing meditation bowl’ or a set of spoons could be for you. Larger objects naturally require a greater amount of time and are well suited to our week-long workshop. The workshop/studio is set up to offer something for every level from complete beginners to advanced makers.

Accommodation
Your accommodation is surrounded by lush greenery and the look from your room is across ferns, gums and ancient Australian grass trees. You may even be greeted by kangaroos in the morning. The workshop is situated in the same part of the house overlooking the green gully and is fully equipped with all of the required specialist tools and machinery. This will give you ample opportunity to experiment and try your hand in different techniques. We also have a great library to provide information and inspiration.
What We Do - Who We Help
Workshops tailored to your skill level.
To ensure the maximum individual attention and the highest quality of learning, class sizes are limited to 2 people. We want to concentrate on each individual and give as much as we can. Therefore we decided not to take on groups but rather limit ourselves to one or two people. .
